Bioptics specimen system for Ninewells

The breast imaging unit at Ninewells Hosptial, Dundee, has chosen the Bioptics piXarray digital specimen radiography system to identify calcification for core biopsy and lumpectomy procedures.

Radiologist Dr Dennis McLean views a Bioptics system with radiographer Sandra McGregor and superintendant radiographer Sharon Lynch.

Services manager Debbie Archibald recalls: "After considering other systems we chose the Bioptics for its ease of use, speed and quality of aquisition. It's compact amd portable design means we can move it between different areas within the unit as and when required."

Ninewells' Bioptics has the larger 150mm x 100mm detector. Debbie said: "This allows us to image core biopsy as well as local excision where we are often required to image specimens of many and varied sizes from theatre procedures.

Says superintendant radiographer Sharon Lynch: "Identification fo calcs has been made far easier and enables us to speed-up the whole biopsy process for our patients. The Bioptics is so easy to use that any one in our team is able to produce a high quality image in seconds."

Trevor Mitchell of Daax commented: "We look forward to the Bioptics making a valuable contribution to the breast imaging unit's work."
